This is only tangentially related to Ren Faires, so if it's not appropriate, please let me know.
I'd like to find a reputable online dealer for Ben Nye products. I found several websites when I Google it, but I have no idea which if any are legit and trustworthy.
Any advice is appreciated!

My husband and I are going to be going to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire for the first time this Sunday. For folks that go or have gone to GLMF, I'd love your impressions and recommendations or warnings.
Thanks for any advice!

3:26 pm - Battle Lords: the Web Series
|

araduin

Do you like movies like Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and the Highlander? Then you'll love Battle Lords! Battle Lords is a web series about a group of friends in the modern day who find themselves fighting the forces of darkness in a medieval dream world they go to when they are asleep. I've long been a fan of progressive rock, and the film score is reminiscent of 70's era prog rock. The series is free to watch and can be found at www.battlelords.tv If you like it, join our Facebook and Twitter pages (links are located on the web page). If you do not know, a web series is a TV show that is found on the web. They are usually independently-produced and personally funded. The episodes are shorter than a normal TV show, and episodes are posted usually as they are finished. Check out our links page, which contains a directory of other web series with a medieval and/or gaming theme. Nicky J. Allison www.battlelords.tv

11:58 pm - Great Lakes, OH Ren. Faire 2010 vendors...
|

elven_sphinx

Can anyone tell me where I might find a list of the garb-vendors at the Great Lakes Ren. Faire this past year?
I'm looking for two in particular... one is a small booth that sells alot of sheer pieces (tops, skirts, etc.) in which the material kind of looks like netting...they also sold some belly dance accessories. There was a lemonade-booth across the lane from them and they were further towards the back of the site. -(sorry, I've only been there once so I can't recall exactly where everything was and I don't remember what else it was next to.)
The second is a larger booth and it wasn't too far from the jousting-field...this is a perm. structure. The vendor sold a variety of skirts, chemises, bodices, men's doublets, pants, etc. I think the leather boot vendor was a few buildings down to the left of this clothier vendor.
Anyone know the names of these vendors or how I might get in touch with them? I'd like to purchase some of their product soon, and I know I won't be back to that Faire anytime soon.
I tried looking for them at the official Faire website, but there doesn't appear to be a list of vendors, just a link to an application for vending. -Not helpful, unfortunately.:(
Thanks so much in advance!!
And, if it's ok: some shameless self-promotion... If anyone has any Faire photos (from any year) that they'd like to share, I have a comm. waiting for you: rennies_nphotos -Thanks!!:)

Perhaps this is a silly thing to post about, but I am having a dilemna! I am going to the PA Ren Faire September 19th. I am lucky to have a very skilled grandmother when it comes to sewing, so the costume department is covered. What I am having trouble with is my hairstyle! You see, I have what would be classified as short hair, its a little past my shoulders, yet is very full. It is naturally curly. I am not totally against wearing a hat or a muffin cap but I am trying to stay away from that idea :3 I am just seeking guidance from some of you fine people as to what I could do with my hair beside leaving it down and poofy. Thanks! (:

1:40 pm - Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire
|

amethystjade

I'm going to be going to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire next weekend for my first time next weekend, and I have two requests for my fellow Ren geeks:
1. If you've been to PA RenFaire, what do you think of it? Is there anything especially cool I should see, or terribly overrated I should avoid? Compliments and complaints both.
2. I've gained weight recently, so my current garb doesn't fit me anymore. :( Are there any shops there worth patronizing to rebuild my wardrobe? For that matter, any general advice on how to slap together some sort of appropriate costume by next Sunday would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Is anyone in this community going to the Ontario Pirate Festival? The dates are July 31-August 2. I haven't been to a Ren. faire (or any related fest) since I moved from the States to Ontario a few years ago and, needless to say, I miss it very much!

3:16 pm - Paragon Jousting Updates
|

prowler1971
|
The 2009 touring season has ended, and we are getting ready for 2010! We're expecting more shows, in more places, and bigger shows with lots of new surprises!
To that end, when The Connecticut Renaissance Faire ended, Scott spent a few more days running around New England, and came home with two new horses for the Paragon Jousting herd. Paragon Jousting has acquired a Friesian Andalusian cross, standing at about 16.2 hands, and a Missouri Foxtrotter at about 15 hands who will be a perfect Match for Mister Mister. Both horses are black, show great aptitude for jousting, and have already started their training at Paragon Stables in Aurora, New York. Watch for profiles and pictures on our newest warhorses coming up soon!
We're also very excited to announce our new relationship with House Shadow Wolf who is now the OFFICIAL armor sponsor for Paragon Jousting. Click on over to our Links page and check them out.

9:01 am - Jousting at the Great New York State Fair this Monday
|

prowler1971

Paragon Jousting will be performing this Monday, Labor Day, at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse. We will be performing three different shows at 1, 4 and 7pm, all to conclude with a heavy armored joust. Three knights and a mounted master of the list as well as the fantastic Paragon Squires will make up this four horse show. We had a great time last year and are looking forward to Monday.

Please don't let your pets roam unleashed/unattended and please be sure to pick up after them. Because if you don't, the next time I have to clean up dog crap it will probably be INSIDE my booth instead of in front of it.
Love, the guy who watched someone's unleashed dog take a crap in front of his booth Saturday morning before gates opened
